Shielded Metal Arc Welding

In Shielded Metal Arc Welding (commonly known as stick or arc welding), participants will receive comprehensive instruction on the setup and operation of multi-process welding equipment and associated accessories.
Through practical exercises, students will gain proficiency in selecting and utilizing various electrodes/rods tailored to specific welding requirements. Utilizing a multi-process welding machine configured for SMAW, students will master the execution of the five fundamental weld joints across all positions, including open root groove welds.

The curriculum also covers essential aspects such as:

Configuration, operation, and safety protocols associated with cutting torches, plate beveling machines, and plasma cutters.

Safe and effective utilization of grinders.

Adherence to general shop safety guidelines.

Familiarization with AWS welding symbols, terminology, and definitions.

Practical interpretation of blueprints for welding applications.

Setup and maintenance procedures for SMAW welding equipment.

Upon successful completion the opportunity to become a qualified welder per AWS specifications

Full-time = 8:30 am - 4:30 pm, M-F
Part-time = 5:00 pm - 9:00 pm, M-F

All students receive a tool bag which includes, but is not limited to, the following;

Welding hood, welders cap, FR shirt, Dewalt grinder, multiple grinding disks, drivers gloves, MIG gloves, MIG pliers, striker, quick square, tape measure, stainless brush, chipping hammer, headgear (dark & clear), flapper disk, rapid strip, carbon brush, soapstone, metal bucket, crescent wrench, project calculator, flashlight, tip cleaner, safety glasses, graph paper, & ear plugs
